Fees. If your claim succeeds, the fee is a share of the compensation for each agreement, at most 36% including VAT and never above the FCA’s cap. If it does not succeed, there is no fee, unless the agreement ends after the first 14 days because you end it, or because information Consumer Reclaim needs from you is not provided: the work already done is then charged at up to £75 an hour plus VAT (£90 including VAT). How our fees work

Car Claims Check is a trading name of Consumer Reclaim Ltd, a claims management company authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 835212). You do not need to use a claims management company. You can complain to your lender yourself and, if you are not happy with the answer, take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, all for free. The FCA’s motor finance redress scheme has been in force since 31 March 2026 and parts of it are suspended while legal challenges are heard. If you are owed money under it, you do not need to pay anyone to receive it.

If you appoint Consumer Reclaim Ltd and your claim succeeds, a fee is payable under its Terms of Business: a percentage of the compensation for each agreement, plus VAT, within the FCA’s cap. Our Fees page has the full table. In some circumstances, we will pass your case to a claims management company / solicitors and we will receive a referral fee.

Is your lender on the list?

Car finance from any of these lenders and brands can be looked at. The list is not complete, and a lender being on it does not mean your agreement was mis-sold.

Blue Motor Finance Ltd went into administration on 30 July 2026. The FCA says its customers are unlikely to get all the money they are owed, and that claims about it go to its administrators.

PCP car finance claims

Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) usually means a deposit, then monthly payments, then a choice at the end: pay a final “balloon” payment to keep the car, or hand it back.

The dealer normally arranged the finance, and lenders often paid the dealer commission for doing so. Under some arrangements the dealer could set a higher interest rate to earn more commission, until the FCA banned this on 28 January 2021. If you were not told about an arrangement like that, about a high commission, or about a tie between the dealer and the lender, you may be owed compensation under the FCA’s scheme.

A PCP claim is a complaint asking the lender to put that right. If you are not happy with the lender’s answer, the complaint can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

HP car finance claims

Hire Purchase (HP) spreads the cost of a car over fixed monthly payments, usually after a deposit, with no balloon payment at the end. The car is yours once the last payment is made.

HP deals were arranged through dealers in the same way, so the same questions about commission apply. The FCA’s scheme covers hire purchase agreements, PCP included, taken out from 6 April 2007 to 1 November 2024, for cars, vans, motorbikes and campervans.

An HP claim made by Consumer Reclaim is a complaint to the lender, not a court case. Our guide to car finance claims explains who the scheme covers.

Common questions

Do I need a claims management company to complain?

No. You can complain to your lender yourself, for free, and if you are not happy with its answer you can take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service, also for free. If you are owed money under the FCA’s redress scheme, you do not need to pay anyone to receive it. If you use a claims management company or a law firm, you pay a fee out of any compensation.

What does it cost if I use Car Claims Check?

Nothing up front. If your claim succeeds, Consumer Reclaim Ltd charges a fee for each agreement on which compensation is paid: from 15% to 30% of the compensation plus VAT (18% to 36% including VAT), depending on the amount, and never more than the FCA’s cap. If your claim does not succeed, there is no fee, unless the agreement ends after the first 14 days because you end it, or because information Consumer Reclaim needs from you is not provided: the work already done is then charged at up to £75 an hour plus VAT (£90 including VAT). You can cancel free of charge within 14 days of signing. The Fees page has the full table and worked examples.

Where has the FCA’s scheme got to?

The scheme came into force on 31 March 2026. Since July 2026, parts of it have been suspended while legal challenges are heard by the Upper Tribunal, in December 2026 or February 2027. Until that process ends, lenders do not have to calculate or pay compensation under the scheme. The FCA says that if the scheme is upheld and the judgment is not appealed, it expects payments to begin in 2027; if not, compensation could be delayed until 2028 or beyond.
